This question is testing your resilience and adaptability. Use the STAR method here to talk about each stage of your experience and how you achieved your goal in the end.
Situation- give the interviewer some context- what project were you involved in
Task- what was your end goal
Action- what did you do to handle the different communication style
Result- what was the result
Reflection- what did you learn from this situation
Here is a sample answer:
'During a group project we had to make a presentation about a topic of our choice. I had to work with someone in the group who had a different communication style to me, and I found this difficult to deal with at first. For example, this person would not give the group up to date check-ins about the progress of their part of the work, which I found challenging.
I decided to talk to this person privately and asked if we could somehow meet in the middle. We decided to create a shared calendar and document where everyone can add their personal deadlines and see what needed to be done.
This greatly affected team morale, and everything ran smoothly.
From this experience, I have learned that everyone comes with their own methods of communication and work ethic, and it's important to adapt to these to reach a shared goal…'
