What do you want to achieve in Medicine?

This is a totally hypothetical question, they will not follow you up in the years to come, you can say what you want to achieve in the moment but this may change over your medical career, and of course that is perfectly fine - an interviewer wants you to acknowledge this! It is better to have a basic understanding of what a typical medical career involves and what opportunities you'll be able to take, rather than having a super-niche super-detailed plan of everything you want to achieve over your career.

Some potential achievements could be based on:

• Your interest in clinical training, academia, skills development and social activities
• Your wish to contribute to society as a doctor, particularly in helping patients
• Your openness to changes direction in career e.g. becoming a consultant and then engaging in humanitarian work

In this question you want to demonstrate your desire to fully engage in all aspects of the medical field, emphasise your altruistic motivations and show flexibility and an understanding that many medics adjust their aspirations over time.

AVOID any focus on financial rewards or wanting a particular social status - this will only give them a bad impression of you. You want to ensure that the interviewer sees your commitment to patient care and to do this you must ensure that making a positive impact is the central theme of your aspirations.
