Conflict in Veterinary MMIs

Conflict questions are about how you can maintain professionalism, respectfully communicate, and share goals. Disagreements in a veterinary setting could be between co workers, with clients or even during clinical situations that are stressful.

You should emphasise that conflict is inevitable in anyone's lives and it can be a good thing if it is handled correctly. Conflict can reveal miscommunication, unclear expectations and people having different priorities, these all require talking.

Some Helpful Things to Know for an MMI

• Remain impartial and calm, make sure not to choose a side and show your own feelings.
• Hear out fully each person’s view.
• Let people know you understand their emotions so they can feel recognised.
• Stop and think about what really caused the argument instead of only what the disagreement is about.
• Concentrate on the goals that you share.
• Pick a middle ground or mutual decision.
• Reflect on the encounter later.

How to Use an Example

You should briefly reference a real example that you have experienced, but you should emphasise the process of reflecting rather than just telling a story.

This matters for vet med because in practise, disagreements about treatment options, workload, or client communication can all affect patient care. Demonstrating the ability to handle all of these situations calmly helps to show the MMI interviewer that you are ready to collaborate.
