Can you tell me about a time you had to deal with an ethical issue in your life?

The answer to this question really depends on your personal experiences. No matter what example you choose to work with, make sure you convey to the interviewer that you recognised this issue and did not ignore it.

You also want to make sure you solution to the ethical dilemma in within reason. For example, if you catch your friend cheating on an exam, you want to approach them privately and talk about the situation with them. You don't want to challenge your friend in front of other people leading to embarrassment. This shows that you are rational, compassionate, and honest, which are great qualities of a dentist.

You can also talk about the GDC principles here that relate to justice and fairness to show the relevance to dentistry.

Suggested structure for this answer:

• Name a valid ethical issue you have dealt with- noticing that someone is being bullied, finding lost money, catching a friend trying to steal etc
• Mention how you have dealt with this situation- talk about who you had to inform, what you had to say, how you had to say it
• Talk about how this is relevant to dentistry
• Explain the harms this can cause if you were to ignore the situation, relate this to a scenario you may find in a dental practise
• Reflect on your previous actions and reinforce why this would make you a good dentist
